Super-Earth: Newly discovered planet could... →
The potentially habitable super-Earth, officially called HD 85512 b, is estimated to be only 3.6 times more massive than Earth, and its parent star is located about 35 light-years away, making it relatively nearby. HD 85512 b was found to orbit at the edge of its star’s habitable zone, which is a narrow region in which the distance is just right that liquid water could exist given...

Shortcuts
I have been working with a lot of new software recently and I have noticed that the aspect that makes the strongest impression on me is the power of the keyboard shortcuts.  I know I am an outlier here but I feel a little bit of failure every time I have to reach for the mouse.  Even better than having keyboard shortcuts is having shortcuts that are consistent with an emerging set of shortcut...

Reference for SunRun and Alteris
I was recently asked to provide a reference for SunRun and Alteris.  Here is what I wrote: Hi Lynne, We had Alteris install a SunRun PV system for us.  No hot water yet although we are considering it.  We are extremely happy with the system and the overall customer experience. However, it is difficult to quantify the actual amount of savings because a number of factors: Since enrolling in the...

Why you should (or shouldn't) buy a expensive...
Recently a few of my work friends have been getting interested in cycling and have been asking for advice. Many of the questions are around whether a specific bicycle is good, or how much they should expect to spend. When talking about cost, my advice sounds a little bit like I am talking about selecting a CMS (my day job). There are lots of bicycles on the market and there is a wide range of...

House Approves $2B More For 'Cash For Clunkers' -... →
Crap!  I was hoping this wouldn’t happen.  This program encourages people to buy SUVs and other low gas mileage cars.  This is a big step backwards for the economy and the environment.  How about $2B more for alternative energy and recycling?

15 Greenest Colleges →
Very cool list of environmentally aware schools.  Seems like this is a list that Hampshire College could get on.

My dailymile profile →
After using TrainingPeaks for a few weeks, I switched over to dailymile.  The interface is much simpler and I like the idea of posting my workouts where they are visible but are not annoying to anyone who is not interested.

Online training diaries
I was looking for an online training diary to log running and cycling miles.  I found Internet Training Log, Voomaxer, and TrainingPeaks.  Voomaxer felt like too much of much of a training coach for my needs.  Voomaxer really wants you to map your routes. That is hard to do if you run/ride on trails.  Maybe if I get more serious I will revisit. Internet Training Log was nice and simple but I...

Content in Web 1.0 vs 2.0
In the Web 1.0 world, content is the stuff in between the advertisements. In the Web 2.0 world, content is the binding of information and people.
